According to Indonesian media, in response to the news that TikTok cooperates with GOTO to operate an e-commerce business, Martin Manurung, deputy chairman of the Sixth Committee of the DPR, reminded the government to supervise this cooperation to ensure that no violations occur.

“There is a need for regulations that govern consumer data protection and healthy business competition,” Martin said on Tuesday.

He does not want the market dominance in each business area to be controlled by one conglomerate.

"GOTO is one of the largest technology companies in Indonesia. The company has multiple business lines, including e-commerce, logistics, and finance, and GOTO's market dominance does require vigilance," Martin said.

He said that if GOTO is not properly managed, it may create the risk of market monopoly and unhealthy competition.

“The KPPU is required to monitor GOTO's market dominance and the KPPU must ensure that GOTO does not exploit its position to engage in practices that are detrimental to consumers and local businesses,” Martin explained.

Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Teten reminded GOTO and TikTok not to engage in predatory pricing if they do collaborate in the future.

"I met with Tokopedia yesterday and the government's intention is to no longer allow predatory pricing practices as this will hit micro, small, and medium enterprises," Teten said in an interview on the sidelines of the Berita Nusantara event at JCC Senayan in Jakarta on Tuesday.

"They must also respect the development of the national economy, and we also want the digital economy to start implementing sustainable business models," he added.
