The Importance of Online Shopping Enthusiasts to Your Store

Filipino online shopping enthusiasts account for only 19% of the country's online shopping users, but their purchases account for 47% of the country's total e-commerce purchases.
A recent study by Ninja Van Philippines and Geopost revealed that these enthusiasts (avid online shoppers) typically purchase products online across various categories, thereby driving the local digital economy.
“Online shopping enthusiasts understand online shopping well and their standards are much higher than those of ordinary online shopping users – from the initial browsing to clicking and ordering and receiving the package – every stage is critical to ensuring the loyalty of online shoppers important,” said Sabina Lopez-Vergara, chief commercial officer at Ninja Van.
The majority (86%) of Filipino online shopping enthusiasts purchase products directly from social media, and they purchase twice as much as the average online shopper.
The products are mostly brands they already know, but some are still willing to buy products recommended by KOLs.Popular categories include beauty and wellness, fashion, and small furniture and home decor.
In Southeast Asia, 15% of online shopping users are classified as online shopping enthusiasts, accounting for 45% of total e-commerce purchases.
The study noted that these online shopping enthusiasts "spend a significant amount of time researching products and consumer reviews across multiple platforms," including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
"Once you gain the trust of online shopping enthusiasts, you will not only gain loyal customers but also gain more fans who will recommend your store to their friends and relatives," it added.
The Philippine e-commerce market's GMV is expected to grow about 15% this year to $16 billion from $14 billion in 2022, according to logistics solutions provider Locad. Across Southeast Asia, e-commerce GMV is expected to grow to $153 billion from $131 billion in 2022.
Locad CEO and co-founder Constantin Robertz earlier said Shopee remains the popular online platform, while Lazada has the highest per-capita spending at P2,500.
