According to Indonesian media reports, the government, the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, and the Ministry of Trade have adopted a lenient stance on TikTok Shop's alleged violation of Trade Ministry Regulation No. 31/2023.
The regulations prohibited transactions on e-commerce platforms, and TikTok was subsequently accused of violating the regulations under the pretext of testing. The Ministry of Trade allowed the experiment, so the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises could only urge the Ministry of Trade to carry out relevant controls.
When a reporter tried to confirm with the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises the specific steps taken to deal with the violations, the Ministry of Cooperatives stated that it had no plans to prosecute TikTok and the Ministry of Trade for alleged violations.
“This is not a lawsuit, but coordination, and we held a technical coordination meeting with the Ministry of Trade some time ago about this,” said Temmy Satya Permana, assistant deputy for financing and investment at the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises.
The Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises hopes that all parties, including business actors, will respect and comply with the regulations that have been jointly discussed and promulgated. Temmy said all business actors have the right to operate their businesses as long as they comply with applicable regulations and legal provisions.
