Lazada Settles With FDAWU Over Restructuring Activities

Lazada and the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU) jointly issued a statement a few days ago, stating that the two parties have reached an amicable settlement on the restructuring activities and reached two important negotiation results. One is to strengthen the support plan and the other is to establish a special training fund.

It is reported that FDAWU will use the enhanced support program to help eligible affected union members. Lazada has also established a special training fund for FDAWU to provide employment and employability support to affected members. The companies will work with the NTUC's Employment and Employability Institute (NTUC's se2i) to manage the support.

The parties added that they had "taken all considerations seriously" and would continue to work closely to provide assistance to unemployed workers. Lazada directly recognized FDAWU in October 2020. As a legally recognized union by Lazada, FDAWU has held further discussions with Lazada to ensure better outcomes for its members.

Meanwhile, the FDAWU said it recognized that general branch members from other non-union Lazada entities were affected. The union hopes to be able to provide support to these members. The National Trades Union Congress and FDAWU expressed their gratitude to Lazada for their cooperation. The three unions also expressed their gratitude to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) for its support and assistance.
