TikTok has become the most popular online shopping platform among Thais under the age of 29, according to a survey conducted by Thailand's Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO).
The survey was conducted among 4,699 respondents nationwide.
The platform serves as an online commerce platform popular among young people because it emphasizes happiness and entertainment through live broadcasts and short videos created by users and creators, which is so-called "shopping entertainment."
TPSO director Poonpong Naiyanapakorn said shoppers between the ages of 50 and 59 still shop online through Facebook as they are familiar with the system and vendors offer competitive prices.
They also prefer shopping through e-commerce channels such as Shopee and Lazada because these channels have strong store and product management systems as well as payment and refund systems.
Poonpong said these features play an important role in enhancing trust between sellers and buyers.
The survey found that young people shop more frequently but do not buy expensive goods. They prefer to purchase through social commerce channels that focus on entertaining them and making them "happy."
This is in stark contrast to older shoppers, who prioritize value and quality of goods and services.
