Recently, the Philippines has sent out unfavorable signals for TikTok. Bienvenido Abante Jr., a member of the House of Representatives of the Sixth District of Manila, has submitted House Bill No. 10489, which requires a complete ban on TikTok in the Philippines and strict supervision of other overseas social media platforms.
In fact, due to political and economic reasons, the Philippines has long banned military personnel from using TikTok software on the grounds of "cybersecurity risks." A spokesman for the Philippine Armed Forces explained: "Many free applications on our phones can turn on our microphones, monitor us, and watch us when we sleep... because we gave them permission when we downloaded them."
It can be seen that TikTok has long been in crisis in the Philippines, and Bienvenido Abante Jr.'s proposal is undoubtedly adding fuel to the fire. As the saying goes, "a tall tree attracts the wind." In recent years, TikTok's astonishing growth rate has attracted the attention of many markets.
In April 2024, the US authorities put forward a new bill on TikTok's request for ByteDance to sell the TikTok app. Although TikTok argued for its rights, its ill-fated fate in the United States seems to have been doomed.
Following the United States, Kyrgyzstan also officially banned TikTok at the request of the country's National Security Council (SCNS) on the grounds of "protecting the health of Kyrgyz children."
