South Korea's online shopping transactions rose more than 10% in April, the highest in a single month on record, data released on Monday showed, driven by inflation.
Online shopping transactions reached 19.83 trillion won ($14.41 billion) in April, up 1.89 trillion won, or 10.5%, from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea.
This was mainly due to an 18% increase in demand for food and beverages to 2.77 trillion won from a year earlier.
Online sales of agricultural, livestock and aquatic products in April were 990.9 billion won, up 26.2% year-on-year, as the government provided discount coupons and subsidies to help people affected by inflation.
Online sales of home appliances and other electronic products rose 13.1% to 1.27 trillion won in April, due to the early arrival of hot weather this year, Statistics Korea said.
