As shoppers seek savings and convenience, e-commerce platforms are reshaping the global e-commerce landscape and becoming an extremely competitive industry.
According to the 2024 Global E-commerce Market Report released by RetailX, although e-commerce platforms only account for 30% of the world's top 1,000 retailers, they have successfully attracted more than half (53%) of consumer network traffic, becoming an important bridge connecting merchants and consumers.
Among the major platforms, Amazon ranks first with a 20% share and has become the biggest beneficiary of network traffic.
As an industry giant, Amazon has won wide favor among consumers with its rich product selection, efficient logistics services and high-quality shopping experience. In particular, the exclusive benefits such as fast delivery services enjoyed by Prime members have further consolidated its dominant position in the market.
The second-tier platforms include Lightinthebox (6%), eBay (5%) and AliExpress (3%). The network traffic of platforms such as Rakuten, Taobao, Etsy, Shopee and Walmart accounted for 1% each, and the remaining platforms accounted for a total of 26% of the traffic share, showing that the e-commerce industry still has strong diversification and competition space.
