Currently, Indonesia has enabled Japanese tourists to use QRIS domestically, while the "outbound" function (for Indonesian residents to use in Japan) is under development.
In August 2025, Indonesia completed sandbox testing with China's QR code system, with official launch expected in early 2026. Cooperation with South Korea is also about to enter the sandbox testing phase, while Saudi Arabia and India are still in the preliminary consultation stage.
Related cooperation requires conditions such as the level of bilateral economic activity, technical infrastructure compatibility, and local currency settlement agreements.
Data shows that in the third quarter of 2025, Indonesia's digital transaction volume reached 12.99 billion transactions, a year-on-year increase of 38.08%, with QRIS transaction volume surging by 147.65% year-on-year, ranking first in growth rate. As of August 2025, QRIS has over 57 million users, mainly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
