PRA Chairman Roberto Claudio said that many physical goods sold through e-commerce platforms are still not taxed, which puts physical retailers at a disadvantage.
Claudio pointed out that "most e-commerce sales transactions involve physical goods sold through platforms such as Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop." He emphasized that the current tax structure is creating an unfair competitive environment.
In addition, Claudio called for a review of the current de minimis rule in the Philippines, which currently exempts imports worth 10,000 pesos or less from duties and taxes.
