As of 10 June 2025, Shopee Malaysia has implemented an updated Marketplace Commission Fee structure. The revised policy changes who gets charged, when it kicks in, and how it’s calculated, all of which are especially important for new local Marketplace sellers.
Here's everything you need to know.
What Is Shopee Marketplace Commission Fee?
The Marketplace Commission Fee is a mandatory fee charged to local sellers who sell through Shopee’s Marketplace (excluding Shopee Mall). It’s part of how Shopee sustains its platform and continues offering key services to both sellers and buyers.
This fee is part of the platform’s model to ensure it can continue running efficiently and providing sellers with essential features and services such as:
-
Customer service so sellers and buyers get faster, more helpful support
-
Export and growth programmes, giving sellers access to regional or international markets
-
Seller tools and insights like performance dashboards, sales tracking, and analytics to help sellers grow
-
Logistics improvements such as faster deliveries, better courier options, and more reliable shipping experiences
Shopee Grace Period for New Sellers
Shopee gives new sellers a temporary waiver on the Marketplace Commission Fee to help them ease into the platform. During this grace period, you won’t be charged any commission fee until:
-
You reach 100 completed orders, or
-
It’s been 120 days since you listed your first product,
whichever comes first.
But Not Everyone Gets the Grace Period
You won’t qualify for this commission-free period if:
-
You’ve had a Shopee seller account before, even under a different name or ID
-
You’ve already received a new seller fee waiver in the past
-
You’re taking over a pre-existing shop that already has reviews, followers, or sales
-
You’re using an account linked to a proxy, affiliate, or related party
Shopee will review each case individually and has full discretion in deciding whether or not you’re eligible for the grace period, even in special or unclear situations.
How Much Is Shopee Marketplace Commission Fee
The Marketplace Commission Fee rate depends on:
1. The category of product you’re selling
2. Whether or not you’ve joined the Shopee Cashback Programme
Here’s the fee breakdown by category:
How Is Shopee Marketplace Commission Fee Calculated
Here’s a breakdown of how the commission fee works:
-
The fee is based on the final product price, after subtracting:
-
Seller Product Discounts – discounts you manually set on your products
-
Seller Vouchers – discount codes you fully fund
-
-
After these are deducted, Shopee applies 8% SST (Sales & Service Tax) to the commission amount.
-
This total fee is automatically deducted from your payout once an order is considered completed (paid, delivered, and accepted by the buyer).
Example:
You sell a product at RM100 and offer a RM30 voucher.
-
The fee is calculated based on RM70
-
SST is applied
-
Shopee deducts the final amount from your payout once the order is marked as completed
Orders that are cancelled, refunded, or returned will not be charged this commission fee.
You can view detailed charges in the Shopee Seller Centre > My Income > My Tax Invoices.
