Whoever wins more Chinese tourists in 2024 is expected to achieve a comprehensive recovery of the tourism industry. At present, among the ten ASEAN countries, except for the Philippines, all have introduced varying degrees of visa facilitation measures for Chinese citizens, such as visa exemption, visa on arrival or electronic visa.

In particular, Singapore, the most developed economy in Southeast Asia, will exempt China from visas, which is of even more symbolic significance. Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lawrence Wong revealed on December 7 that on the basis of the increasing number of flights between Singapore and China, the two sides will strengthen personnel exchanges between the two countries through a 30-day mutual visa exemption arrangement.

Singapore has also joined the ranks of China's visa exemption, which inevitably makes other Southeast Asian countries feel the pressure of "grabbing customers", and they have also stated that they will further reform the visa system. For example, Indonesia said that it is considering implementing visa exemption for citizens of China and other countries. Immigration policy;

Thailand has stated that it is considering significantly extending the period to 90 days based on the current 30 days. In September this year, Thai Prime Minister Saitha Thakur, who had just taken office, announced that Thailand would implement a visa-free system for Chinese tourists starting from September 25 for about five months. Now Thailand is thinking about how to "increase" the visa-free policy.

Starting from December 1, Malaysia will implement visa-free visa exemption measures for Chinese citizens within 30 days of entry. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar said at the end of November that the move was to welcome the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China in 2024. He also expressed his gratitude to China for its recent announcement of a trial unilateral visa-free policy for Malaysian ordinary passport holders.
