According to a survey conducted by Nielsen Vietnam, about 78% of shoppers on e-commerce platforms are office workers, and the majority are women.

A 2023 survey of online shoppers in four major cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hai Phong found that most of them are young (average age 31), 58% are female and 83% have College degree or higher, and 12% are self-employed.

About 68% of households earn more than VND15 million (approximately $600) per month.

In addition, entertainment shopping has become a trend recently, attracting many users.

Some 64% of respondents said they made an "unconscious" purchase while watching a live stream, especially if it was highly entertaining content.

Le Minh Trang of Nielsen Vietnam said the digital economy can be considered one of the country's key growth drivers, with e-commerce being one of the largest segments.

The e-commerce retail market is expected to grow 16-25% annually between 2018 and 2023, reaching an estimated $20.5 billion last year.
